Tickets and Accommodation

We offer conference tickets and university accommodation options, described below. There is also accommodation available in the town. This page also has information about travel and overseas visitors.

Conference Tickets

We price tickets to encourage people to book early - this allows us to plan better.

This year we have four levels of Conference ticket, and the early you book, the cheaper the price is.

  • Super early bird conference ticket: £160 including VAT.
These are on sale now - limited in number. This price is lower than our cheapest ticket two years ago.

  • Blind bird conference ticket: £180 including VAT.
These tickets will be on sale until we announce the first speakers at the end of February.

  • Early bird conference ticket: £200 including VAT..
These will be on sale until the end of June, when we announce the conference timetable.

  • Conference ticket: £220 including VAT.
This will be on sale until the middle of August or until we run out of tickets, whichever is first.

All conference ticket levels include access to the sessions and workshops, lunches, refreshments and the conference dinner, but not accommodation.

Please note that conference tickets are not refundable, but they can be assigned to another person.

Accommodation

Aberystwyth hotels are surprisingly expensive (the Premier Inn is listed at £150 a night during the conference), and most attendees choose to stay in university accommodation - both because it is close to the conference, and also for the social aspect of 200 developers in the same building.

All accommodation is in single person rooms with en-suite facilities and a full English breakfast. Accommodation costs are refundable if you let us know by 31st August.

Accommodation for 3 nights (Monday 7th-Thursday 10th) - £220.

Additional nights are possible on Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and/or Thursday 10th) at £75 a night.

Buying tickets and accommodation

Tickets and Accommodation are on sale via Aberystwyth University’s online shop. Aberystwyth University has a bilingual English/Welsh policy, so if some of the text does not look like English, it is because it is Welsh; if you aren’t a Welsh speaker, don’t panic, just read the English.

Location and Time

The conference is on Aberystwyth University's main campus, overlooking the town, as is the accommodation if you choose the university accommodation. The conference will start 4pm on Monday 7th September with some workshop sessions (included in the price). Main conference will finish in time to catch the 1:30pm train on Thursday, with some further optional free workshop sessions on Thursday afternoon.

Travel

Train is often the easiest way to get to Aberystwyth, with a pretty two hour journey from Shrewsbury. The Monday train arriving at 15:20 is in time to attend the Monday afternoon workshops, and the conference finishes on Thursday in time to catch the 13:30 train to London. You can get on any train to London with an off-peak ticket, which makes trains to/from Aber quite reasonably priced.

Off-peak train tickets from London (any train after 9:30am from Euston) cost around £105 return.

Off-peak from Birmingham International is around £75. Some cheaper tickets from Birmingham are available, but need to be bought in advance and restrict you to a specific train.

Overseas Visitors

For European visitors, or those changing planes in Amsterdam or Dubai, Birmingham International Airport is the easiest place to fly into, with a 3 hour direct rail link to Aberystwyth. Manchester Airport is reasonable, but you will probably need to change trains twice.

EU visitors used to be able to come to the UK on National ID cards before the UK left the EU.  They now need a passport, like other overseas visitors. People who have bought a ticket but need a visa should contact us here, as we can provide a letter confirming they are booked for the conference. If you are likely to need a visa, it is sensible to apply three months in advance.

For USA visitors, you will probably need to travel via Heathrow. Train from London would be via London Euston, changing in Birmingham. Driving from Heathrow takes 4.5 hours and I wouldn't do it the same day I arrived in Heathrow on an overnight flight.
